The city council approved a new curbside composting program that will provide households with a designated green bin for food scraps and yard waste, collected weekly alongside regular trash and recycling. The program will roll out to single-family homes citywide starting this fall. Apartment buildings with more than eight units are not included in this initial rollout, since the city is still developing shared-bin logistics for larger complexes, but officials say a second phase for those buildings is expected sometime next year.
